Almoooooooost done

I've so far knocked out 2 of my four exams. Western Civ wasn't bad at all but Spanish...oh boy. That one hurt. Yes, it's intensive but still...ouch. All I have left now is two music theory ones. Neither should be too bad. I probably need to go study for those soon but I really don't have any desire to do anything. Nap first? Then music.

---------------

I'm kind of annoyed (and by kind of I mean it really bothers me) how much time I waste now. Facebook. The worst. I spend so much time doing...nothing. Like, if I took all of the time I spent on facebook doing nothing and put it toward, lets say, music theory or guitar I could get into Berkeley. Maybe I'll try to ween myself off of Facebook. I'll never delete it unfortunately. I have too many ties to people that are only through FB but maybe I can limit myself to only getting on it a few times a day or only for a short amount of time.

----------------

One week until I can start running again. Less than one week actually. Six days. I was convinced for a while I didn't actually have a stress fracture and that I just had shin splints but when it still hurt 4 weeks after I stopped running I realized I had a problem. I really hope it's healthy now. I've waited almost seven week and I really want to run. It's not even because I feel out of shape or I feel the need to be ready for XC. It's therapeutic for me. I can't convey it in words like Andy can but I feel the same way. I need it. It's been hard not being able to run with some of the, well, traumatic events that have recently happened in my life. I turned that energy to getting big instead (haha). That being said I put on quite a bit of muscle in my, shall we say, "off season."

Now I don't know what to do. XC runners are supposed to be scrawny creatures but mid distance runners are supposed to be powerful machines. Do I allow all of this hard work I've been doing to fade away so I am light by the time XC comes around or do I continue to lift and get even stronger by next track season? I honestly really like having all of this muscle. Being strong is a new feeling for me. I mean, I'm obviously not huge. I'm bitching over around 12-15lbs right now. Yeah, there's my freshman 15. I feel like losing that 15 lbs wouldn't really do anything for me in XC. Sure, i'd be 15 lbs lighter but I would be 15lbs weaker. I think I shall continue to lift. Maybe stop trying to put on weight for a while though and just sustain and tone.

-------------------

Someone recently told me to practice my music all I can in college because I won't have any time after I graduate. She said you will be as good as you are when you graduate for the rest of your life. I can't really believe that. I've always improved dramatically. Not just in playing but in composition, theory and skills. I can't see myself not having an hour a day to practice even when I have a job. Hm. Something to think about though. I've been spending a loooot of time in the practice rooms recently. More for voice and piano than guitar really.

I'm starting to get annoyed at how I am occasionally treated as a guitar player. As a lesser musician. I think it took some people in the music dept. until they saw my juries to stop looking down on me. "Excellent player. Excellent musician. Sight reading needs work." I compose too! I know plenty of players here that have 0 creativity. Grrrrrrrrr. I think that's why I've slightly turned more towards piano. People see it as more of a legitimate instrument. I'll never give up guitar. It's still my pride and joy (Stevie). But I feel the need for proficiency in another instrument. Or two. Or three. Violin lessons anyone?

-----------------------

My roommate...Oh boy. It's gotten to the point where EVERYTHING HE DOES ANNOYS ME. EVERYTHING. THE FACT THAT HE IS BREATHING RIGHT NOW ANNOYS ME. yeah. 3 more days. 3.

That felt good.

Fine Jessica.

You're not even gonna read this! But I'll do it anyway. I read your post (this is like a post personally to you) about like, not writing personal stuff on your blog anymore when it used to be an outlet. Yeah, I did exactly that. On my old one I wrote freaking everything but the more I wrote the less personal stuff I wrote. It got to a point where I really didn't want to say anything and just stopped blogging.

Home on break and sleeping in till 3. I love it. I absolutely love it. I got up between 7 and 8 every morning at school and getting the chance to sleep in is excellent. Right before I came home I ordered two new mics; an SM57 and a Golden Age Project FC 1 Mk. II. They're pretty amazing. I've made some really, really good recordings with them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujgvOSrNjnI

We celebrated Solstice pretty early. The only that was left by the 25th was our stockings which we opened pretty early in the morning. I got mostly useful stuff like Under Armour and some clothes and a lot of guitar strings. I also got some LEGIT studio headphones. The big kind you see studio musicians using in videos and stuff. SO Nice.

Um.... I'm sittin here with my Bros. And by bros, I mean Parker and Steely Dan and we're playing Smash Bros. Love it. We've been playing for about 2 hours straight.

Doing Nothing

Well, I'm waiting for Michaela to wake up so we can go do our Historic Pres project, so I'm going to go ahead and blog. I just finished a moderately successful XC season. I spent a good deal of it injured but still managed to place way higher on the team than I expected. I'm pretty pissed I finished my season with a 30:02 8k time. But considering I only ran it 3 times on some of the nastiest courses around, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. It's XC. Indoor doens't start for a while so I'm trying to take this week completely off and then cross train next week and then start lightly running again the week after.
Oh, by the way. CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

My classes are going pretty well. I'm probably going to end up with two A's and two B's which isn't too bad. I'm taking intensive spanish, world civ I, Music Theory II and Theory II skills, and...something else next semester. Can't remember at the moment. I really wanted to take the intro to Logic course but it got filled by sophomores. Hmph!

I'm slowly, and by slowly I mean very slowly making new friends. The XC team is still where I'm happiest and I feel like I belong the most. I've never felt so solidly part of a team before. It's hard to beat that.

But now I'm going to go get a pumpkin spice chai tea latte and do my project.

Haven't Blogged in a While

Made the team. But that's not a very important story. Point is, I did. Had an EXCELLENT team meeting. These guys really are a team, not just individuals. I TORE up my workout today. It felt great. I think a good part of that was the temperature was perfect.

Went swimming today instead of working out. Poor choice. Well, not in the long run. But i'm really tired now.

POSTPONED AGAIN

Title. It was. 2 people have dropped already. Broken by the mental strain of preparing for the most important race of their lives and having it be canceled. TWICE! I mean, that's not really why they dropped, it was apparently too rigorous. But honestly, I've gone to bed at 10 almost every night this week, and I've been eating only pasta and pizza and drinking only water and milk. Like I'm pissed. I've been ready to do this for a week. He said he would probably take 18 and now there are 18 remaining members. The two guys I could for sure beat dropped. So now I'm going to come in last prolly, and prolly get cut. GRR

Tryouts soon. Whew boy.
